Mikayla's First Recital

Sunday, December 13th. That was the day of Mikayla's first ever recital. And she did great! She started piano with random visits through the summer then opted for a more consistent and committed program through the school year.

There's been some whining along the way, and some tears when she doesn't understand something, but we keep reminding her that this was her choice from the beginning - and she committed through May - so she's stuck with it. Over the last month, the activity has been much more enjoyable as she's been able to play songs we all recognize and are able to help her with (neither John or I are musically-inclined) - and she's had a set goal in mind being this recital.

With just a week to go, we went ahead and decided to get her and Christina to go in together and do a duet. "Jolly Ol' St. Nicholas" was the song the teacher chose for them. There was some difficulties with the girls' timing, we were very thankful we had Mark around during one of their practices to help them with the count - but when push came to shove and they did their final performance - they started and ended together - way to go girls!!!

I was very pleased with how Mikayla didn't seem concerned at all that she had an audience. She did her two solo pieces without fault - and was so excited about it.

Who knows, maybe we'll have a future musician on our hands!

great pictures!

I made each of my kids take piano for one year (great basics)...Alyssa quit as soon as she could, she hated it! Then became our percussionist. my boys each stuck with it for 5-6 years and both still play...along with their other instruments...you never know!!!
