The Wax Museum

Introducing Steve Irwin, Walt Disney, Daniel Boone, Neil Armstrong, and Jackie Robinson.....

One of the very cool things that Brayden's school does with the 3rd graders is have a "wax museum". To sum the concept up, the kids do a long project on what makes an "every day hero" (they then have to interview an example, Brayden wisely picked Dave Mertz), and then do research on a "historical hero". On this, Brayden chose Jackie Robinson. The kids then put together a minute-long speech and dress up like their character on Wax Museum night. The teacher drew circles on their hand, the kids stood like statues in an appropriate character stance, and then, when someone "pressed their button" - they recited their minute description of the character and then returned to their pose.

It really did turn out very impressive. The biggest obstacle was being able to hear the kids as the gym (museum) was quite noisy - but it was awesome how much pride each child took in representing a hero. The kids in the pictures above are all some of Brayden's best friends - it appears Jackie Robinson had good taste....
