A Couple of Questions 92

Today I am headed up to Michele's to offer her my slave labor and moral support as she seeks to get a handle on her home, the holidays, and her life amidst subbing a lot more than usual and having her husband gone each night until 10pm working on their home. In fact, she'll be devoting Friday and Sunday to that cause (Saturday the family will be at Michael's Grandma's funeral in Grass Valley) so we plan on picking the kids up in Salem as they return through town Saturday night to keep them occupied and happy while Mom and Dad work away. Thanks to Amy, my kids will be taken care of until early evening, so it's a team effort to keep Michele "above water".

I'm hoping she keeps me busy putting address labels on Christmas cards vs. cleaning out the hamster cage, but I will do my best not to complain......

On to "very seasonal" questions.....

1. What is a holiday preparation activity that you really enjoy?

2. What is a recent holiday movie or Christmas song that has really struck a chord with you?

Have a good one.....

1. When I am not rushed, sleep deprived, and have everything around me and prepared - I really enjoy both the baking and wrapping aspects of the holidays (and shopping too!).

2. I've pretty much answered that. After looking at the video on Solace Girls blog, I might have to suck it up and watch "Christmas Shoes" as Mikayla loves that song. However, knowing the theme of the song, I just don't know if I want to go there emotionally.

1. I enjoy looking at the lights on others' houses, and downtown. I enjoy our nativity scene. This year we're celebrating Hanukah and I'm really enjoying the nightly menorah lighting.

2. "Mary Did You Know" always makes me cry. I also heard a fun take on "The Twelve Days of Christmas" by Reliant K...it's usually such an annoying song but they made it fun(ny). The kids and I listen to 99.1 this time of year and sing along to "Feliz Navidad" and "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." So much great music this time of year!

1. You know, if we actually had furniture in our front room, I think I would really enjoy getting a tree and decorating it. But, since there is still no furniture in there, and our family room is not large enough for a tree, I just don't really decorate the inside of my house. (I do put up outside Christmas lights, and got that done Thanksgiving weekend.) I usually enjoy wrapping presents, but for some reason, this year I just haven't gotten into the spirit. (Bah Humbug! on me!)

2. I really like "Christmas Shoes" also. I want to see the movie now. Hmm, maybe in Sunriver!? I should really get some Christmas music put on my IPOD because that is all I listen to anymore when I am in the car.

Have fun at Chele's and I hope you guys get a lot done!

1. Baking for sure, I also enjoy wrapping presents but unfortunately end up with major upper back pain afterwards. I'm trying to do it in small batches this year.
2. Hmmm, no clue. There is this one TV movie that I am sure they will re-play this year. It is with Patti Duke, can't recall anyone else, but her son was kidnapped out of the front yard when he was a baby and he got adopted by a rich family in the city and seeks out his birth family right at Christmas. He is a teenager and so is his brother and they have a younger sister. They think he is lost or something, maybe a runaway. Anyway, he bonds with them but never tells them who he is and then at the end goes back home to his parents and leaves a note telling the mom that it was him and he is okay. I love that movie. Random! I need to find it and watch it again!

1. I love all the decorating. Just enough to enjoy it - but not so much to overwhelm me. I love walking into a dark room with a lighted Christmas tree.

2. I love Francine Rivers book, "Unafraid". I probably read it every other year - ever since I was pregnant with Caleb. It's brough so much perspective on Christmas.

Great suggestions, everyone - I might have to go out and get that book, Colie!

Colie, Can you describe a bit more what the book is about? Fiction/nonfiction, etc? I'm interested...

I can add what I know, because I just got it - it's in the series that Francine Rivers wrote about great women of the Bible - a retelling of Mary's life, with fictional license, I'm guessing. I found it at Borders.....

1. I love stuffing the stockings.
2. I have to watch All I Want For Christmas each year. It is about two kids working really hard at the Holidays to get their parents back together. I am going to check out Christmas Shoes and "Unafraid" like you guys recommended. Also, Jodi, have you come up with the name of that movie?
