A Couple of Questions 78

I am so tired of flies in my house! Anyone else?

On to the questions......

1. Let's say you agreed to go "primitive camping" for a week - what element of civilization would you miss the most? (Examples of: Starbucks, hot lengthy shower, tv, the internet, the "feel" of civilization", etc......)

2. Let's say you had to perform a song "karaoke" (someone's life depended on it) - which song would you choose?

I know, some far-fetched scenarios, but I thought I'd ask-

1. Not Starbucks, probably the feeling of "connection with the outside world", perhaps my computer......

2. "How Could I Ask for More" - it wouldn't be pretty, but I think I could hit all of the notes on that one......

1. A toilet with plumbing

2. "Son of a Preacher Man". That is the song I always choose to sing during a karaoke stint. Pete and I also always perform "Summer Lovin'"

1. I would miss my computer time. The people, in the blogs I read, are like friends(how is so and so's premature baby, how is so and so's week going at the South Pole-seriously, I read a blog of a girl who is spending the whole "winter" at South Pole- 6months of night).

2. My first song I karaoked to was "Ghost Busters"- that would be my choice.

1. private flushing toilet, closely followed by soft bed

2. "Your Song" by Elton John. I would be rotten but I love that song.

P.S. Yes, the flies (esp. fruit flies) are also driving me nuts. I sound like a crazy lady clapping my hands at odd times/places trying to get them. We also have mosquitoes.

1. Hot Showers and a comfortable bed.

2. Row Your Boat - I can't sing on tune and this is a very short song. Not many things make me very uncomfortable - but singing in a mike does!

We do not have flys. However, we have killed several wasp nests and Randy has gotten stung 3 times in 2 weeks! A bit annoying! We are scared to play in our own yard! They are evil!

Oh, Colie - so agree with the yellow jacket torment. Brayden got stung 5 times crawling over a metal gate at my mom's that they had nested in a couple of years ago. It was awful, but I will say, he was an amazing trooper. The baking soda thing has always worked great for us. Anyone know anything positive a yellowjacket does for us? They are truly nasty creatures!

We've struggled with yellow jackets too - Ellie and I both got bit or stung - albiet the experience wasn't as painful as I remembered so I wonder if they weren't just warning us to back off... The boys found a nest inside an old barbecue right where we've been playing - perhaps our experiences will be better from here on out...
1. For short periods of time I love roughing it - eventually though I miss the idea of getting really clean... of starting fresh in the morning without grime covering every surface of one's body or living space. I too also can start missing "a connection" - cell phones don't always work where we go - but in Michael's case, that is often a positive... :)
2. Oh goodness - I'd had to have too many drinks to consider karaoke - I'd probably only sing with someone else (and even then with complete reluctance) - so whatever they chose...
Good questions Stephers...

Regarding Yellow Jackets: This was taken from the Clemson Extension Website at www.hgic.clemson.edu: Yellow jackets are considered beneficial around home gardens and commercially grown fruits and vegetables at certain times of the year because they feed abundantly on insect pests such as caterpillars and harmful flies. Unfortunately, in late summer and early fall when their populations peak, the yellow jackets’ normal insect diet disappears and their feeding habits become a problem to man. At this time of year, the yellow jacket has an appetite for much the same food and drink as those consumed by man.

1. I would miss my bed. If we were at a campsite that had other people close to us, I would miss the sleep I would normally get at home since Bogey sleeps until noon at home, but would sleep only until he heard other people getting up at a campsite.

2. Me, sing in front of people? Are you kidding me? I would have to agree with Chele; I would have to have had way too many drinks to even consider Karaoke.

Wow, Steph, thanks for the yellow jacket information - I knew God had to make them for some reason. I had to tell the kids that without flies, things would lie around dead on the ground without ever disappearing (maggots....) - so that was their good purpose.

You all are so much fun - thanks for making my day with your comments!

1. Shower. Hands down.
2. Sweet Caroline. And I would do it without drinks or someones life depending on it.
