As most of the nation knows if you've listened to national weather - the northwest is in the midst of some record-breaking high temperatures. Hitting the 100's in Eugene happens about as often as snow arrives for us - perhaps a couple days a year. When it settles in for a stay - it causes just about as much discussion.... we Oregonians are used to things being a little more mild....so many folks head west to escape the heat.
Not always, but quite often, if the valley is hot, the coast is often banked in with fog/clouds (and that happens in reverse as well). The forecast suggested the beach would make it to a cool 88 degrees, but as Michele, myself and the kids peeked over the top of the mountain - we saw the telltale signs of the gray fog - and sure enough - the temps barely reached the mid-70's.
The temperature was perfect for us though - and based on the crowds and intense line-up of vehicles to get into Lincoln City (which is why we detoured to Neskowin) it seemed many other Oregonians felt the same way. The kids had a blast digging holes, playing in the waves, and making sand creations. As for me, I got a much-needed nap, while Michele played with the kids and snapped some of these fun pics.

holy cow!!! what a huge hole!!!! that looks like a lot of fun! how lucky of you to live so close to the beach...our beach trek was a whole 18 hours away!!!!!! i love the fog in the pictures...pretty neat!
70s? brrrrrrr!!! That is not swimmin' weather for this southern girl!!
But it looks like they had a blast!
how cool! cuz i've been thinking about all you lately and seriously thought...hey bet the coast is perfect!! so by the swimsuits instead of overcoats...glad to see you enjoyed it! ☺
Yes, the coast was a welcome relief from the sweltering temps here. I find myself not wanting to leave the house because I don't want to face the furnace to run errands!
But, as for the temp of the water - still ICE COLD - and so painful to be in. This weekend we are headed to Cannon Beach where one of our college friends - (Julie aka j.nelson) will teach us how to surf. Michele was quick to point out just how frigid the water temp was (as she played in it and I didn't) and how thankful she was that SHE wasn't going to be learning how to surf in it =) I was quick to point out that we'll have FULL wetsuits at our disposal. As it stands now, John and I might be doing more watching and assisting with the kids vs. actually trying ourselves given recent back (John) and neck (me) issues. Man, we're getting old!
