The Light that Went Out

I was commenting on Jodi's blog yesterday that two of my favorite presents from John this year were my "THE MESSAGE" version of The Bible in a Year (which coincides with the devotional journal our church uses) and the Blue Light lamp that is said to prevent symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder.

The two went hand in hand for me, because I've begun waking up a half hour before the kids to turn on the light in the bonus room and read my Bible while the lamp is on beaming those powerful anti-depressant blue waves upon me.

However, a couple of days into the process - we began having a problem. The bulb starting flicking - like nasty fluorescent lights do. I'd turn it off, turn it on again and it would be okay, but for only about 5 minutes. This really became a distraction, particlulary as it got worse.

We emailed the folks we bought it from, and eventually, as I realized it had quit and so had my desire to read in the mornings, it hit me. Satan turned out the light! Our Bible Study is studying 2 Timothy and it Paul encourages Timothy to fan the flame of his ministry - I think Satan didn't like my finally making God's word a priority and tried to quench the "flame" (albeit blue....).

So, today I went to Costco and got the kind my mom has recommended - and am excited to begin again tomorrow. This one uses LED lights which are supposed to last 50 years or so (if you use the product like they describe). I think I won this battle......=)

Stephanie what is the brand of the light you got at Costco, where is it located in Costco and is it very expensive? I so need one of those. You can email me with the info if you would like. Thanks, Judi

Judi,

I don't have your email address so I'll just post the response here.

They are a bit pricey, but I felt like I saw improvement from the other one and based on my mom's testimony of it, felt like it would be worth it to keep from getting into the January slump.....

The Costco unit is called goLITE p2 powered by Blue Wave and is $160 (I have to preface that this was my big Christmas present in order to somewhat justify my indulgence....) It is located on a shelf facing the window at the pharmacy where you would talk to the pharmacist once you recieved your medicine. Here is a link to the same product online - a little more expensive, factoring in the shipping.....

Hope this helps!

way to go, you! for not allowing Satan to blow out the light. it is so empowering to identify this and overcome it, isn't it? it's like "yeah, Satan, whatever, blah, blah, blah" So cool!

Satan will try other things Steph but I'm happy that you one the first one:-). I'll pray for you (and you can do the same for me if you think about it). Bible reading is so precious. Satan of course doesn't want us to do it!

Yeah, I didn't want to insinuate that it will be easy going now..... I just laughingly thought about the whole thing and realized there could be some correlation. I'll be praying for you too!

Thanks, I'll check it out tomorrow! I don't think you have to justify the price. If it works it's definitely worth it. Think about the price of pills and therapy in dealing with winter depression. And spending your quiet time with the Lord beside the light is a great idea. I always want to get up early and do that, but it is too dark and dreary. I think my email is on my name with this system.
