An Apple a Day....

It's apple season - and around this house that has definitely been apparent. Here's what's been made in the last three weeks:

3 apple pies
- 1 crumble topping with granny smith and fuji
- 1 crumble topping with johnagold
- 1 sour cream apple pie

2 sets of sour cream apple bars

3 batches of fluffy apple dip

1 apple crisp

1 batch of apple cider with mulling spices

(& 12 loaves of zucchini bread... not apples, but I just had to throw that out there to prove why I've been going through a pound of sugar and flour a week!)

Yes, we have been entertaining lots of folks at the house - but it's also just so cozy to bake, bake, bake.... In hindsight, I think a cuisanart purchase three weeks ago would have been helpful for slicing all those apples!

So, what's your favorite apple recipe? And, what's your favorite apple and why? I was very impressed with the Johnagold... I like a tart and crisp apple (so I usually know I won't go wrong with granny smith). This is definitely a domestic post...

Happy autumn baking....

  1. Martha, Martha, Martha.....Yummy!!! So I am up in the air with my fave apple. I think I might try the Johnagold. I don't really like sweet but a granny smith, which is typically my favorite, has been a little tart for me lately. So is a jonagold a combo of sweet and tart? Whichever, though, I have been craving apples lately. I did make an apple crisp. Is sour cream and apple together a yummy combo? Sounds a little gross, but I'll try it.
And your Zucchini bread is awesome! Thanks for bringing it a couple weeks ago.

  3. We tend to move between Gala and Fuji for basic daily consumption. I like to use a mixure of apples when I bake. The best applesauce apples are from my parents tree. They grow a mighty fine rome beauty, but this year they had a very small crop.

  4. Remember, I have a cuisanart that never gets used. Yeah, right....me bake something! You are more than welcome to use it. Hey, Travis wouldn't be opposed to you 'adopting' it if needed. It's all yours, man! Travis says that the payment plan will be Peach Kuchen for life......
