On Wednesday, Steph Hoffman and I took the trip up north to Canby to see Lisa. Lisa, and her best friend, Angie, have been working and co-directing weekly camps they've hosted at Canby Grove, the camp property that Angie and her husband own.
They've hosted one-week camps that these two have planned and orchestrated for the last two years, but this year, they relied on total faith and lots of help from volunteers and those with valuable advice to run week-long camps through the summer. It's incredible. I'm so impressed with what they have accomplished - the creativity, the energy, the amount of responsibility, the organization - it's really an overwhelming achievement. I wish I'd taken a picture of Lisa and Angie together, but alas, I didn't make it happen. I did, however, get a pic of the three of us taking in the beauty of this location.
And, we had these two beautiful girls along for the ride too. (Literally, in Whitley's case). =)
She was digging this push tricycle that was owned by someone at the camp. I texted Travis and Steph to let them know she was requesting it for her upcoming birthday.
Soon after arriving, Lisa gave us a tour of the camp. I've been given lots of insider information over the years of the state the grounds were in when it was purchased, how much updating has been necessary - etc. It's truly been a ministry adventure John and Angie have had to sacrifice to see happen, but it's remarkable how God has used it in immeasurable ways to bless the hundreds of children that have been loved on each week at this place.
The main dining hall and firepit.
We hung out and caught up at Angie's RV, where her family has lived through the summer. Lisa has stayed in one of the cabins with her two kids (Erica and Adam) - returning home to Dennis on the weekend. However, the week we visited was the week he took off work to be there serving alongside of them.
Of course, I'm drawn to the animals, so I took no time at all to greet "Latte", Angie's floppy-eared bunny. It was fun introducing her (as her first intro to rabbits at all) to Whitley. She was quite curious, but tends to "pat" a little hard...
Before we returned home, Mikayla was able to catch up with Erica at lunch.
It was such an inspiration to see Lisa giving everything of herself to this camp and just how much God has used her. I know she feels like she barely has enough to get through each day, but that just proves how this is something totally of God and not just her...
(Oh, and for the record - had a splendid drive to and there with Steph - one of those times when you are thankful for the drive time to be able to spend that much time catching up - love them both!)
