Literally, I just now woke up. 9:30 - now that's what I'm talking about. Brayden is still trying to hang on to snooze-land - I know this because he is on the mat right next to the couch that I slept on. I might have made it 'til 10, but Mikayla woke me up, bless her heart, she already got her own cereal and milk and is watching cartoons.
Our family is falling apart right now. It was laughable as to why we had to leave Sheldon and Christy's early last night. Brayden has somehow got something going on with his eye that makes bright lights very painful for him. I think his eye has got a little scratch. So, that nixes the plan to take the boat out today, and leaves us indoors (which, at this point, sounds kind of heavenly). As for Mikayla, I think her whole ear-drum issue from Hawaii has left her hearing a little ultra-sensitive. If she's exposed to loud sounds long enough, it becomes painful for her (and if she's tired enough, so starts the crying). Our little handicapped clan....
Also regarding Mikayla, I've neglected to note that she lost her first tooth while we were at the Drive-In. She chomped into a piece of candy and all of a sudden her two middle bottom teeth became very loose. She worked one long enough until it finally came out - and there you go. You'd think that girl just struck oil with the way she incessantly talked about it and referred to it all night long- she's one proud chica. If you've ever looked carefully enough to photos of her, you might notice that it's not the bottom teeth I want her to lose, it's two of her top ones. When she was a toddler, she chipped two of her teeth in the bathtub, which eventually led to them having to have serious dental work done (anesthesia and all in the hospital) and now they have this beautiful grey tint to them because they are capped. As much as I'd like to say I'm above these things, I'm not, and it's been a stumbling point for my mommy pride ever since. Wouldn't you know, those two teeth have been loose for well over a year, and still no budging. The big trick with those teeth will be to lose them simultaneously as once one is gone, the coloring behind the other tooth will be very obvious. For her sake, I was hoping it would happen before she started first grade.... but, on the other hand, I know it bugs me much more than her, I think she thinks it makes her special. You gotta love kids. I won't be stopped from offering her raw apples and corn on the cob on a frequent basis, though.....
And, finally, to the title of this post. Would somebody please remind me, mid-June, to get a sedative for our dog to give her during this fireworks time of year? She is in one sad state when things are popping and whizzing all over the place. Last night, she opted to crawl under the corner table between the couches as her place of security. I tried to get her to hop on the couch with me, and while that didn't work, she did lay next to me - on the floor, at the head of the kids. I kept my hand on her for a long time, trying to comfort her. Just when you'd feel her breathing settle down, another set would go off and she'd hold her breath all over again. Poor thing. John finally took her into the bedroom and had her sleep on the bed with him.
So, perhaps, a day of recovery will be a wonderful thing for us all.
aww poor sydney....well henry kept wanting outside and just ran around the cul de sac like it was a big party going on and he was missing it! he's always been a little clueless though!
ReplyDeleteman, i don't know about you, but i kept hearing them go off well past 1am. we must live in the most illegal neighborhood in town by the size of fireworks going off out our back door!
poor kiddos...rest does sound good for all of ya! enjoy it.
Linda - thanks for the support - trust me, the kids are doing fine - hyper today - John and I keep rolling our eyes saying, "Let's tone it down a bit...."! Yes, lots of fireworks going on and on and on.....
ReplyDeleteFor everyone else, just want to give a quick intro to who Linda is. While we've probably talked more via cyberspace this week than we ever have in real person, Linda lives just about a mile away from me and her husband is the super-cool youth pastor at our church. So fun having you pop up in my comments - and to everyone else, Linda has a very cool blog....check it out!
Hey, sounds like you and yours had a great 4th! I ran my first 10k on the 4th and I am paying for it now! No fireworks over here though!
ReplyDeleteThose pills are a lifesaver. I got a prescription last year and since I only use two or three a year I have enough to last about 10 years. I can always mail some to you! (Could that land me in jail for dealing drugs?)
ReplyDeleteWe did fireworks with a friend but I have become such a "Mommy" that I was just a nervous wreck watching them run around with sparklers. I gave myself a headache! I'd much rather go to a show and watch the pros do them while I lie on a blanket saying, "Oooh, aahhh." While my dog whines at home and I don't have to deal with it!
i love all your pictures! it looks like you had a fun week!
ReplyDeleteMikayla's teeth - I have a story: my friend's daughter got hit by a swing in the mouth and her front tooth fell out. My friend was really sad because this girl was only 3 1/2 and therefore has many years before an adult tooth will replace it. Her little girl could care less but my friend is still a little sad (almost a year later). Isn't it funny - things that affect us so much do not even phase our children.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!
