Greetings blogland family--
I find myself at a surprised "what do I do now?" during a time when I was supposed to get together with someone that got cancelled, so I thought I'd post some of Heather's great question suggestions. Hope you all are having a great week-
1. What's your handywoman skill around the house/car?
2. What is something you wish was still appropriate to do as an adult, that is acceptable for a child to do?
1. I will have to think on these things for a bit - car - NOTHING - total loss, I hate to admit that I don't even know how to change a tire. Inside the house, I'm actually pretty good around tv's, dvd's, gaming systems in figuring out how to make it work.
ReplyDelete2. Cry. I think there's a certain entitlement kids have in just breaking down when they are tired/exhausted and folks around them don't worry too much - they take it for what it is and let them cry it out. However, if I, as an adult, broke down, folks would really worry about me and I'd feel very uncomfortable with the "worried attention". But, sometimes, that's all a person needs, just a good cry to "get it all out".
1. Car - I can change a tire, change the oil, clean it; but do I do any of these things? NOOOOOO, I let Travis do them all!
ReplyDeleteAs for the house - I am the one who installed all of our light fixtures and ceiling fan when we moved in. I changed all of the door handles and closet knobs.
2. I think I would have to agree with you, Stephie. Crying would be one of them. Another would be being able to stop when I am tired and ask someone to 'carry me'.
Great questions!
I am completely guilty of remaining in the dark on how to do "handyman" type activities because I am married to an amazing man who can fix anything. Perhaps I could bend it that I like to make him feel strong and useful, but honestly, it's just pure laziness. And really, he is so great that I don't need to learn much.
ReplyDeleteMy answer was going to be the same as yours. There are so many times my kids fall apart from exhaustion and I think, "Man, I feel the same way but can't let it go like that!" But I will try to come up with something new. I wish I could eat as much dessert as kids do. In fact, I wish my meals always came with a ice cream sundae and it was expected that I would eat it all! And the only thing I had to do to get it was "eat three more bites".
1. Car - i can check the oil:-), change a wiper blade, and pump gas. Not much! The house - I think I could do more than I do but I let Randy do lots. "let" as well as "ask". I think it's important. But I am also good with tv/dvd's, computer stuff. I can probably do most things that require a screw driver, hammer, and wrench. Nothing more complicated than that, however.
ReplyDelete2. I wish I could take naps and ask my mom to fix me a snack. that would be great:-).
1. I cannot even change a lightbulb. But, in my next life, I long to build my own house and make the furniture to outfit it.
ReplyDeleteStephietoo...you rock! I just learned that about you, way cool!
2. Cry at the drop of a hat, eat and not worry about fat grams or calories, have someone tell me to go take a nap, have my Mom insist that I need to read for 1/2 hour.
I love the required reading -great one, and naps, and finishing your plate to get desserts - awesome ladies!
ReplyDelete1. Change a tire, check fluid levels. Being a lifelong Oregonian I do not know how to pump gas!
ReplyDeleteAt home I can do a lot of small repairs, as long as they don't require going past the 3rd rung on the ladder (hence, no Christmas lights on the house these days...)
2. I wish I could climb up on someone's lap and just be held. And just lie on the couch and watch TV all day when I'm sick. And dance and sing without feeling self conscious....which I suppose I could do as an adult if I tried hard enough. :)
